Fire Tiger Interview

Recently, I got the chance to interview James Ramsey from the band Fire Tiger.
We discussed the origins of the band, how they got their name, how they feel today's
music differs from the 80s and more. For the full interview hit 'Read More' and
make sure you support Fire Tiger by purchasing their album 'Energy', which
is on iTunes now!

1. How did Fire Tiger come about?

Well I was originally looking for a guy singer, but found that Tiff has real cojones. I don't mean that literally, she's still a girl, but is vocally comparable to the singers I like. We ended up all sharing a house together in LA.

 2. What is your favorite song off the album and why is it your favorite?

Everyone seems to have a different favorite.. Our primary singles are "Energy" and "He Has Changed".. "The Same Old Song" might be our personal favorite to listen to. We are currently working on videos to "Green Light", "Wall of Technology", and "Fancy War Dance".

 3. How did each of you get started in music?

We all got started at an early age...

 4. Your album 'Energy' is heavily influenced by the 80's. What is it about that era that you guys feel is missing in today's music?

Wow, this question could be the whole interview. 1. Timeless songwriting 2. Lyrics that have some art to them, that aren't completely self-centered, materialistic and sexually degrading. Lyrics that maybe even have a little class. 3. Interesting chord structures, with suspensions and other more complex musical arrangements 4. Powerful, sincere vocals without auto-tune and fake R&B accents. 5. Rock 6. Exciting instrumentation, real players 7. Songs that appeal to EVERYBODY, not just small niches and the 13-year-old girl demographic. 8. Fog machines 9. Tape 10. Music I like.

 5. Where did you guys come up with the name of the band?

We wanted a "double" name like Oingo Boingo, Duran Duran, Bananarama, Tears for Fears, Wang Chung, etc.. I liked the word "fire", which seemed be non-existent at the time, but now has made a resurgence.

 6. What are some songs/bands that each of you are listening to at the moment?

We used to listen to more new wave stuff, etc.. but have now ventured off to 70's into 80's. We recently made a mix tape called the "Cheesy Dad" compilation.. It includes Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Jefferson Starship, Genesis, Supertramp, Mister Mister, TOTO, Chicago… We still love everything from the 80's though, it's too much to list. The Smiths (Morrissey) is probably our favorite. We love everything from them to everyone in "We Are the World" like Cindi Lauper, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, U2.. And one hit wonders.. We like to watch the "Live Aid" concert from 1986 and listen to movie soundtracks like Rocky IV.

 7. What is the recording process like for you?

Well, we started recording what we thought was to be a demo, and it turned out to be the album! Our next 10 song album is written already, but will probably not be done for a few months into 2014.

 8. Outside of music, what do you guys like to do for fun that the fans might not know?

Sit. Sit and do absolutely nothing. Love our dogs, Gershwin and Henry. Support our friends' shows. Cleaning, laundry.

 9. What does the rest of 2013 look like for Fire Tiger?

Printing Vinyls, T-shirts, and CDs, and trying to get a 2014 world tour together. We also have our Christmas song, "Open Eyes" available soon!

 10. Is there anything else you want to tell the Fire Tiger fans out there?

Thank you so much for supporting our music! If you like what we are doing, please help us change music today by tweeting about us, buying our album, and letting the music industry know it's time for something different out there!
